I've recently been invited to speak to a group of university age students about freedom. As i prepare, i started to think what actually is freedom? We all certainly have ideas on what it is, but can we truly define it?
Some would define "freedom" as the will and ability to speak or do whatever one desires. Another definition would be the state of not being imprisoned or enslaved. True, someone incarcerated in prison would not be considered free. Yet there are "free people" in this world who seem imprisoned by no apparent restrictive factors, while there are imprisoned people that seem to exhibit a sense of freedom free people don't have.
Viewing history, freedom seems to be a relative term.
